Star of the County Down is a song written by Cathal McGarvey in the late 1800's and set to a well-known tune. It is the story of a man who courts a girl, but loses her when she emigrates to America.
It has been sung by many people, but I love this version by the Orthodox Celts. They are a Serbian band who combine some rock with traditional Irish songs and very well-known in their country.
