Book Review: A Beautiful Wreck by Ceecee James
A Beautiful Wreck is the third book in the Second Chance series and is Cassie's story. The book opens with Cassie awaiting the return of her fiance, Leif, from Afghanistan. She is unsure as they had some issues before he left, but it doesn't matter as Leif doesn't make it back. Cassie spends the next year grieving her loss.
She decides that she needs to return Leif's family Bible to his cousin, Luke. She tracks Luke down and finds that he has his own issues. His girlfriend was killed in a fire a few years before because of an investigation that he was conducting as a policeman against the Russian mob. Luke has become an alcoholic.
He and Cassie connect and decide to help each other. Luke also wants to continue the investigation. I don't want to give away the plot, but as Cassie and Luke get more involved, the situation becomes more and more dangerous.
This was a good story. Cassie was a little immature sometimes, but I thought that she and Luke made a good couple. The story moves along and comes to a satisfying conclusion.
I didn't read the other books (yet), but I didn't feel that it was a problem in reading this one. I'm interested now to go back and to read the other books.
I received this book as an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. But I also bought the book to have on my shelf.
